The SEO Scholars program is an Out-of-School Time (OST) education and youth development program that centers on rigorous academic preparation in order to bridge the academic achievement gap between low-income public high school students and their more affluent urban or suburban peers. SEO Scholars program is both a college access and a college success program, providing services throughout an eight- to ten-year span, from 9th grade to college graduation.
The program combines intensive supplemental education and a wide range of supportive services to ensure that underserved public high school students earn admission to, and success at, nationally competitive colleges and universities. It succeeds in closing the Black-White and Hispanic-White academic achievement gaps as measured by SAT scores, the most widely accepted indicator of college preparedness. The SEO Scholars program continues every step of the way until college graduation. While attending college, SEO students receive psychosocial support, participate in academic and career workshops and get one-on-one assistance focused on managing coursework, earning top grades, developing financial and budgeting strategies, securing internships and undertaking effective planning for their future careers and long-term success.
